Tailgate spring question w/custom bumper

When you guys throw on new bumpers and such what do you do with the tailgate spring that uses the bumper mount? Is it really needed?

Not really necessary. I had cut mine on my '91. Made the gate really awkward due to the weight. The springs do help, just not tremendously. Be careful if you do cut them.

I cut my springs off when I built my new rear bumper. The tailgate is heavy but not terribly heavy.

I took mine off, its not a big deal just a little more grunt to shut it.
