first a big howdy to the states from germany. i just got me a 87 blazer a month ago and now are ready for some fixin..

first question is:

when i got the truck the tailgate window opend n closed by the key turning but not by the switch on the dashboard as the fuse was broken. when i fixed it both ways worked.
now all of a sudden the key doesnt work anymore.
a doubt its the lock, cuz it has worked so long.
is there a special fuse for the lock?
did i mess something up as i fixed the cables for the left tail light??
any ideas?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

thanx a lot /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My '86 tailgate is picky how far you insert the key. Will draw a few cute remarks here but............When you push it in all the way it won't work. So I slip it in and slide it back out till it works. May not have the same problem but it's worth a try. If the dash switch works then I would assume that the key switch has power. Though you should check a wiring diagram.

/forums/images/graemlins/k5.gifI would also check the wiring right down by the tail light wiring on the driverside frame.Mine was broke there. It is real comon for them to get all messed up there from water and stuff. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Don't rule out the key switch itself. There are electrical contacts on the end of it (just like a brake light socket) pull that apart and clean the contacts and put on some di-electric grease and put it back together.

yeah thanx armytank. i doubt that its the key, cuz that worked great.. its probably the wiring that i messed up
anyone knows about a second fuse?
it def worked when the power window fuse was cracked..

There is the normal fuse in the fusebox, there is also a circuit breaker(73-79? they are located on the firewall behind the booster, 80? and up they are in the fusebox also). Then there is also a relay located under the dash. On my 75 burb, I found mine(which was causing me troubles)to be mounted to the side of the brake pedal support.

yup.. the wiring

got me armytank! it was exactly the wiring down at the taillight! thanx
and happy new year
