tailgate window

ok maybe im stupid or im missing something but my tailgate window will not go down with the key in the tail gate. the key wont turn. the key does work just fine with the doors. is there something im missing. power windows and it will go down with the dash switch

The door locks were probably changed at some point, but not the tailgate lock/switch. It might just need lubed though.

any clue where i can get a new lock cylinder for the tailgate

Pull it and have it re-keyed to match the door locks. It's a reasonably big job though, involves almost total dis-assembly of the tailgate, plus at least one door to get the door cylinder out. Might be able to just take the truck to a lock smith and see if he can do it with the cylinders in place?

Hi, I dunno if this works up your way, but I had the same sh!t with a Nissan car i had, I took the vehicle to a wreckers yard specialising in Nissans and asked to have the "Keys" they have an enormouse bundle of keys, it took about 5 min and I had one that fitted, and for 5 bucks I was on me way happy, worth ringing your local wreckers and asking, saves pulling anything good luck mate

Good idea. My brother in law used to work at a wrecking yard and has this monster jar of keys. There are only so many GM keys...

I do know there are about 4 different iterations of blanks thanks to LMC. Their section offering key blanks shows style one is used on '73, '77, '81 and '91, style 2 is '74, '78, and '82, style 3 is 75, 79, and 80-86, and the last style is 76, 80 and 87-90.
