tailgate year help

I bought an tailgate off craigslist the other day and was told it was off an 81. i brought it home and the trunnions I picked up from the scrap yard off an 83 were to small.
my LMC research is telling me it is newer than 76. so what year is it?

Search for nimak5's build thread here in the garage, he just fought this and figured out the year differences.

i knew about the swap thread in the tech section, his build did have the pics of the bigger trunnions. now i just need to find a set.

the ones for the 76-80 gates are 1 1/2 diameter and the 81+ gates are 1 1/4. I think the older gate looks better tho.

I like the older tailgates also. My tailgate has the 1 1/2 diameter and I need the trunions,can't find them any where around here. None of the local junkyards has anything older than 92 anymore.

And I agree about the tailgate styles. Mine is off a vertical marker truck, dunno the year, but looks like the above picture. Love it

yeah, I got mine on and I sent a set of trunnions to Virginia.

Sorry it's been a while since I've been on ck5 but seems you guys got it figured out. Pretty easy to find the parts on craigslist or a junk yard. I actually had an extra set of trunions for that year too. Looks good
