Hello all,
I'm starting in on my first K5 project. I can't believe the part support and the knowledge base here. Running into an issue with the sheetmetal tabs used to mount the taillights. The fender patch panels do not include these, and as you can see there's not much left to go on.

Does anyone have a template, or even a photo without the taillight in I can go off of?

Thanks in advance!

@Bent77 Trucks not as bad as it looks from here. Floors are good, doors, tailgate, all good. Only areas that need serious attention is the rear cross member / posts, driver rocker, and the base of the B-pillars. I think mud got packed in there and held all the Michigan nasty road crap up there.

@1300obo thanks! That helps at least now I know what it's supposed to look like.

Haha, I didn’t mean scrap the truck! Sorry it came across that way. Rather, weld in some new tail light sections with all the good structural integrity

Not at all! Photo looks pretty bad, didn't want you all to think the whole truck looked like that and question my sanity!

Since you mentioned patch panels…. I believe those taillight pockets are the same for all square bodies, you could try to replace just the pockets as opposed to a bigger panel.

The tail light area is the same and the truck/ blazer tailgate mounting areas are the same because you can swap the tailgates. The suburban is a bit different, the angle changes on the back at the body line, not at the top of where the bedrail would be. I think below the body line they would be all the same. Not sure if the latches are the same for Blazer and Suburban, you can't swap the tailgates because of the different body lines.

Even at level 59, I learn something new.

This guy has a junker K5 that may be able to donate the section you need. I just cut a piece of the floor out of it tonight.
