I had a problem finding a short shaft for a 700R-4, and finally found one.
I thought I could put it in myself, because I really did not want to pay over 150 to get it installed  , But I decided to let a shop do it. the trans came out a 91 camaro, the shaft, im not sure, but they said it would work on my 91 trans. I did buy it from a trans shop..

Well, now some shops tell me the shaft may not work, because of different count of splines :doah: , the guy at the trans shop, told me they were all the same  ...(where I bought it from)

This is the thing, can you tell buy looking at it?? I'm not sure, I'm not a trans expert :( I don't want to pay $167.00 to find out I need a different shaft.

Some trans companys told my my front pump would not hold up to a truck :(

Are they trying to SHAFT ME???????????????????

I'd have the shop that sold you the shaft do the swap, that way if it doesnt work, its their fault, tell them that they ordered the wrong part, its their responsibility to get the right one to make it work.

that would be the 4wd shaft for a 700r4, they are all the same spline. the only spline that ever changed on the 700r4/4L60/4L60E, is the input from the converter, they changed that is mid 84.

as for the pump, :haha: :haha: :haha: the pump has nothing to do what application its in, its the year. they first started with a 7 vane pump, weak, not much pressure and wore out fairly quick. then is 86, they put a 10 vane in. this pump is what most of the trannys have, good pressure and lasted a long time. in 95 or 96 they put a 13 vane pump in. GREAT pressure and last along time. its nice to have but oyu don't need it unless you are running big HP.

sounds like the tranny shops are trying to scare you into letting them do it. if you have any questions on this shaft swap, pm, email me, im also on yahoo massenger under the same screen name. i have done this swap many times, and have rebuilt quite a few also.
