My CUCV has 54" S10 rear springs with an added leaf on the front. It rides, drives and flexes great but I noticed that both are starting to show a gap in the top leaf. Are they fine as-is or do these need to be replaced soon or yesterday?

Debating about just putting in another set of the same in unless someone has a convincing argument to change.

I figured it was from over-flexing. I was more concerned with "it will be OK for a while" or "next drive will undoubtedly end up upside down on fire".

No way to tell for sure how long they'll last.

How many times can you bend a paper clip back and forth before it breaks? Depends on the clip and how far you bend it. Springs are the same way, but obviously don't have to be bent as far to get damaged because they're so much thicker.

From a strictly visual prognosis....

For just driving around, it seems like you'd be ok since your second leaf seems to be almost full-length. But under big compression, it could be risky.

Them there are multi arched springs super custom. Over flexing and axle wrap both can cause this. Best to fix the problem before tossing new springs under there
