Im trying to take my steering wheel off in order to access the turn signal switch and im confused on what to do after removing the horn on the top and removing the screw. Does anyone know how to do this as well as what tools i will need.
Thanks again for any help

You will need a steering wheel puller.

They are only $10-15 at most auto parts stores, but some will rent them.

You also need a lock ring tool to get it dissembled as far as you need to.

Any parts place will be able to help you.

Good luck!

Spring the fifteen bucks or whatever for the Chilton's or Hayne's while you're at the parts house to get the puller. They'll have picture instructions.

There's a big nut in the center (takes like a 3/4" or 7/8" socket, I forget, which wants a long ratchet) and then you use the popper to weasel the wheel up.

If by "turn signal switch" you mean the plastic cam, then you'll have to go in a bit deeper. A steering wheel lock plate tool is required:

You'll also really want a set of picks, the scary dental-looking ones, for the snap ring, and you'll need the usual collection of screwdrivers and sockets and ratchets.

Note that the links given are for you to see the thing, not necessarily to buy -- as mentioned, you can get 'em at any decent parts place.

Again, get thee a service manual; it's doable for the shadetree mechanic but can be overwhelming for the uninformed.

Note: The plastic cam is right behind the lock plate. The wires run deeper though, so if you are planning on installing a whole new turn signal switch, you have to pull a few more pieces off to get to the wire harness clip. Make sure you pay real close attention as you pull it apart; there are a lot of small pieces that will go in more than one way, but will only work if installed correctly. I found a real nice walkthrough online. If I can find it again I will post the link.

ljense8, I followed the link (Thanks!) and the steps completely. Still had the wires that need to be fished down through what's left of the column. Do you just tie the old to the new and pull it through? Seemed like a really tight fit to accomplish that.

I'm not exactly sure about that. I didn't have to take mine that far, since I was able to re-connect a wire that had come loose and didn't need to replace the whole harness. I will be following to see what kind of responses you get just in case that wire doesn't hold and I decide to just put a new harness in. I'm glad that link helped. I printed a copy of it to keep on hand in case I need it in the future. Be warned though, it's about 34 pages or so if you print it.

I had it pulled up on my phone while working in the truck. Made nice sense out of the puzzle.

All you have to do is take bottom cover off of the steering column next to dash. Find the cable that is the turn signal and unplug it. Tie some small wire to the end and pull the cable up through the column and tie the new cable to the wire and pull it back down through the column.
