I posted the other night asking how to shift into 4wd properly.. well still no luck. I can move the floor shifter between 2hi and 4 hi with no resistance... but absolutely cannot budge it into N or 4lo. I tried while having the truck in park and in neutral ( was told N was the way to do it ). The truck had been sitting for a couple years, is there something I should bang on or some cable that may have froze?
Thanks CK5

Ok here is my stupid question of the day.

Are you pulling the shifter sideways to get it into neutral and then pulling back to get it into Neutral then Low??

Sorry if I am insulting your intelligence but I have seen several people that it didn't click for them what the pattern on the transfer case meant.

Check the linkages, one of the cotter pins fell out of mine and it had the same problem.

Also a little more info about the truck might help

also if you have auto hubs you will need to back up for the hubs to engage.

You may also have to push down on the transfer case shifter to move it to the side. Just trying to remember from my step dads 85 GMC PU

Im not insulted, when it comes to this I have no intelligence since Ive never used 4wd before :-)

I started the truck, put it in neutral via the column shifter then after that tried moving the floor shifter to 4 LO. But it only allows me to move between 2 and 4 hi.

The truck is an 88 Blazer with an auto tranny and OD.

Sorry for such a newbie question guys

Also, should I hear or feel anything click/link up when I switch between 2 and 4 hi? It just slides so easily and quietly that I dont think anything is happening.

The tansfer case shifter doesnt move to the sides. Just forward and back in a straight line.

Don't usually hear anything on the GMC, Also make sure you are parked on level surface, engine running, E-brake off, tranny in neutral.

Seems like the pattern was something like

4 hi I
2hi I_
N I
4 low I

Also if you have a manual check there, but you know that and on some the instructions may be printed on the back of the sun visors

That is about all I can think of, Lubricating the shifter linkage can't hurt either.
