I am looking to buy a tap and die set, can someone tell me what sizes I need for a big block. I don't really understand what the sizes all mean or what would be needed, I just need a list of required sizes so I can make sure they are included in the set I buy. Thanks!

When I bought my set yrs ago, I got one that goes from 6-32 clear up to 1-X(can't remember the TPI on the 1" one)but that is for a complete set of TAP and DIES.

On chevy's you will need, 1/4"-20, 5/16"-18, 3/8"-16, 7/16"-14

The 1/4"-20 will do all valve cover bolts, timing cover bolts, and all oil pan bolts with the exception of the 4 corner bolts which are 5/16"-18.

The 5/16"-18 will do the 4 corner oil pan bolts, cam gear bolts, oil filter adapter bolts, and also a few plug wire loom bolt holes on the sides of the block.

The 3/8"-16 will do all motor mount bolts, water pump bolts, bell housing bolts, intake manifold bolts, and exhaust manifold bolts.

The 7/16"-14 will do all main bearing bolts, oil pump bolt, and head bolts.

Thanks that was exactly what I was looking for including going so far as to tell what fits where. Very helpful! :saweet:
