tapping top cap

I am getting ready to pull and tap my top cap. Where exactly are yall tapping them? I have seen a few pictures but I was kind of hoping for some dimensions. Anything would help, thanks.

Once you pull the cap off it will be obvious where you can and can not tap. All that matters is that you miss the o-ring surface and the sector support. Beyond that it's just a matter of personal preferance on where you want the fitting at.

Don't forget the pipe taps are tapered so you don't want to run the tap all the way down. Trial fit your fitting or you could tap it too large and have to start over.
 
thanks for the heads up, it looks like I am going to have to loosen up the steering box in order to spin off the top cap.
 
I dont know, will it? I just used an allen wrench and tightened the stud and spun the cap off.
 
You should only remove the 4 bolts and take the shaft out with the cap. I even left mine attached when I tapped the cap. You need to know where the nut was, when you put it back together so you get it to the same spot.
