Taurus fan switch.

I am running a two speed Taurus fan on my M1009.I have the hi side wired to a toggle switch and turn it on as needed.The problem is that I can't keep a toggle switch that wont burn out.I have it on a 30 amp breaker and have been using 30 switches.Now granted I'm sure the switches are'nt the quality they should be but I have used them from all the chain stores with the same results.Do I need to rewire it another way,or try to find a better quality switch like a Neihoff brand.Their is a ma and pa auto parts place that might carry them,but I dont think any of the guy's at the chain stores have even heard of that brand much less stock them.

It is my understanding the Taurus fans pull 27 amps,is that correct????

Use a relay

One word: Relay.

The switch then only has to handle the 150mA or whatever the relay coil takes (that's 0.15 amps for the non-inclined )

Search on "relay", especially Ryoken's or even Rootbreaker's posts.

i use an 80 amp continuous duty cycle relay on my windstar fans

Yeah that's it.I done that once before on a set of KC's I had but had forgotten about it.

Where can I get a continious duty relay? If I ask for one around here it will blow there minds.

i went to napa and just asked for a continuous duty cycle relay rated for 80 amps or better. Was like $25

I just remembered that I have a glow plug relay(I think thats what it was used for)on a diesel sub I junked.Will that work? I would'nt think it would be continiuos duty,but should be heavy enough.Looks just like the one pictured.

if you can think of the application call the parts store and have them lok it up and see if they have any details on it

When I bought the sub you had to hold the toggle switch up to cycle the glow plugs and the switch was wired to the relay.It was not factory,but some backyard booty fab job.

that taurus fan draws about 90 amps on startup, and about 40 continuous on high speed. i've got one in my mustang, and i'm using a thermostatic switch that triggers a starter solenoid. my local napa couldnt find any relays better than 40 amps, so i decided on the continuous-duty solenoid, and i havent had any problems with it, other than the POS controller that melted on me (think it was too close to the 6AL)

that taurus fan sucks a small city's worth of air though!

A guy can always wire a couple 40 amp relays in parallel.
