TBI 350 idling high and randomly dying out

So I have an 87 TBI 350 in my truck. I’m having an issue where it idles high but sounds okay when it’s in gear. It also dies randomly for no reason as well. I changed the idle air control valve and that didn’t help I also checked the PRV and it’s okay. I just got this truck a few weeks ago so I haven’t had much time to dig. I did notice the temp gauge isn’t hooked up. I thought that may be part of the issue. Any help is appreciated thanks

First, does your CEL illuminate when you turn the key to accessory and does it come on while running? If so then you need to check for the code.
Next, take some carb cleaner and spray it around the throttle body unit (where the gasket is) to check for a leak. If the rpm's increase then you have a bad gasket.

Tbi common bad base gasket. Check all your vacuum lines as well.
2nd making sure cel works.
