About a month ago, I reset the timing on my truck (last person who had set it evidently didn't get the clamp tight againzt the dizzy, and it spun to be about 30* off). Got it back to 0*, per what the tag on the core support said, and now it runs a lot smoother at idle and open throttle; however, if I get on the gas just a bit (like if I'm backing out of the driveway) the engine gets really choppy and rough, but if I romp the gas, it smooths out, until I just give it a bit of throttle again.

Should the timing be set a bit more advanced, or should I back it off a bit? Or is it not really likely to be timing related?

Yeah, unplugged the brown wire (brown/black?), then reset the timing, shut the truck off, and plugged the wire back in.
