If I have an 88 350 TBI crate motor that is supposed to be 300hp. I have a siezed 99 vortec 5.7. What would it take to put the heads and intake on the short block crate motor? What kind of problems should I expect if I do this swap? I might have this engine sitting on an engine stand and would love to have the performance in the wifes yukon. As a TBI engine it has some decent snot to it and gets about 15mpg in the suburban.

I did some searching but everyone wants to go the other direction. Vortec in a TBI rig. I am thinking of doing a TBI in a Vortec rig. Would save me quite a bit right now.

So if I understand the information posted;
Your wanting to install a 300 HP TBI crate engine into a 99 Yukon?

Well, I suppose you could do the conversion with a 16197427 PCM. Splice in several dozen wires and program a custom prom chip and call it done. The 16197427 PCM will run / shift a 4L60E, but I think the 99 Yukon will need a PWM eliminator for the TCC controls?:confused:

Another option would be install a port injection system, crank position system, on the 300 HP TBI crate engine and use the black box PCM original to the 99 Yukon. A custom flash for the black box PCM and less than a dozen wires to splice and call it done.

Just swap the heads, intake and timing chain cover and all sensors from the Vortec motor onto the TBI block. being a crate motor it might have the roller cam in it. Swap it out with the vortec on. Then call it a day.

Well if you know they fit? Then I would agree with you! Except that crate engine may not work with Vortec head ending up with what compresion ratio? Will valves clear pistons? Then if all is OK, when it runs it's going to need some serious tuning to make it right.

Thank you. I was thinking it was more complicated than just swapping heads and electronics. Thanks again for the info.
