a friend of mine (an older guy), just got a 87 blazer w/5.7L, and had it looked at a few days ago.....looks like it def needs a cam

what cam can be put in there without any worries about the computer? my friend is a "stock kinda guy", ya know the type?:(

maybe try and find a used 350 tbi cam?

thanks

is that roller rocker of flat? i think my brother still has a brand new cam he took out of his motor to go a step up. it came out of a 94 t.b.i 1500 pick up

i mean carquest or napa, but go where you go, i would not buy a used camshaft though.

i hear ya man...buyin a used cam makes me nervous, but if i can find a cam that maybe someone took out of new crate engine or something, then i'd like to help this guy out....he's a hell of a good guy, just dont have alot of $$$:o

Trucks all have hydraulic flat tappet cams up until 1995 from the factory. Just buy a stock replacement from a parts store and make sure you also replace the lifters (NEVER replace a cam without changing the lifters UNLESS it is a roller cam). Make sure it is for use with TBI (87-95).

if anything reading brians info will let you know just why tbi is so fussy to diffrent cams . just a bunch of good info on tbi systems. and i got a roller lt1 stock cam/lifters/plates/spider for 80 shipped and swaped it in mine . then simple chip burn = more power.

there was a comp cam extreme energy I put in one of my k5's that ran great with the stock computer I'll see if I can find the info for it.

alright I finally found the info on the cam I was running with a stock computer.

Comp Cam Xtreme Energy #12-249-4. I was running this in a stock 350 engine, and the only complaint I had is sometimes I wanted just a little lower power bad when in the mountains crawling along. this was solved we can after market coil, and it gave me exactly what I wanted. I was running a sm465 tranny, and even with a lift / 35's under it I was getting 15-16 MPG.
