up on the intake on the right side there is the MAP sensor and a EGR solenoid but what is the other thing that is 2" square and very flat. usually on the front part of that bracket with the other two and it has a 5 prong connector, no vacuum lines. thanx for any help, crossy.

That would be the knock module. The module then takes the signal from the knock sensor and cleans up the signal and sends it to the computer.

The ESC? Or is that the same as the knock module as you called it?

thanx guys, thats the puppy.
I try to label all my wires well when i am saving them from a parts truck, especially TBI wiring harnesses. it's getting to be a popular swap. I'm not sure it's worth all the time i put into saving it, but it's my choice to save them instead of cutting everything. thanx again, crossy

Knock sensor is just a screw in unit on the side of the block with a single wire running from it to the ecu as far as I'm aware.

On older TBI and TPI engines the knock module (or ESC module) calibrates the signal from the knock sensor and then sends it on to the computer. On newer computers the knock module is built into the calpack.
