Ok guys, I have a 1989 C1500 with a 5.7 TBI motor and a 700R4 transmission. The transmission is bad. If I put a TH350 in place of the 700R4, will the engine still run right without the wires hooked up to the 700R4? Like the VSS? I know the speedo probably won't work, but that's ok. I just need to know if the engine will still run right with the Th350 or if it needs some transmission input into the computer?

Thanks.

yep mine ran fine. just couldnt get the speedo senson hooked upto easy. but some playing will get it for ya.

If the VSS is mounted in the tailshaft of the trans, then no it won't be right.

Check some posts about VSS in the garage.

You can have a new chip burned to eliminate the VSS, but it will also disable some emmision controls like EGR, and may affect drivability to some extent. Second option would be to add an inline VSS to the cable output of the TH350. Check with www.jagsthatrun.com for that type of VSS.
