I'll be converting a friends 85 short box to TBI at some point this summer. I have some questions about the harness. I will be using an 89 harness so that the accessories will work correctly with serp belt brackets.(factory 85 accesories are backwards from the serp style) I know I'll have to put a pump in the tank, run correct fuel lines.. Looking to make this as "factory looking" as possible

-Will the drivers side bulk head plug be pinned correctly so the tbi one can "plug right in"?

-What other wiring mods have to be done for all to work correctly?

-any other experienced input is appreciated!

If anyone has done a step by step that would be great!

I hate to see you sitting here with no replys, I can't answer most of them because you are doing a specific vehicle. I do know if you are trying to use the bulkhead connection the inside will have to be changed as well. No wires on other side to ECM etc...

If you need wiring diagrams they are in the library (photo Gallerey) in my signature. HTH!

-Will the drivers side bulk head plug be pinned correctly so the tbi one can "plug right in"? I would say no, but you might get lucky. I went from a 88K5 parts truck into a 79 K10 though, lots of stuff changed in the course of ten years.
-What other wiring mods have to be done for all to work correctly? When I did mine, I took the entire underhood, and under dash harness from the parts K5, then just plugged it into the 79. I also swapped over to the newer steering column, and wiper motor. I also combined the two gauge clusters into one, so I could keep the 100MPH speedo, I should have just put the 88 cluster in and been done with it, as now something with the speedo is messed up.

-any other experienced input is appreciated! Use a TBI gas tank, they have the baffles to keep the fuel pump submerged in gas. Make damn sure to keep the VSS, its the litte green box thing that has the three wires going to the back of the speedo. It will run like **** if you dont have one. there are aftermaket ones available that go inline with the speedo cable available as well, I plan to switch to one of those.

If anyone has done a step by step that would be great! Like I said, I just swapped almost everything from the 88 K5 into my 79, I had little to no budget, so an aftermarket harness wasnt an option at the time, looking back it might have been the better option though.

Its been over two years since I did the swap and have barely touched the truck since so my memory is a little fuzzy on the whole thing, if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
