So I drove the new to me truck yesterday and at first it was pulling hard and smooth but then I started getting these bangs, it's more like popping, the engine would cuttoff for a fraction of a second and it would come back so it would buck then take off.
At first I was thinking it's electrical, then I switch to the second tank, and it went away, I switch back and it happens again, and finally after 30 miles it died, so I figured it was running out of gas, I dilled it up and started driving again, and it still does the same thing on that one tank, the other tank does that on part throttle when starting uphill but when I hammer it it scoots, the bad tank keeps cutting off when full throttle.
I will change fuel filters jus because, and I will check the wiring, but could it be a weak fuel pump? or does anyone have any experience with this?
I don't want to throw parts at it, but a fuel filter is not a bad thing to change when getting a vehicle with no history so i will do that.

Had that on my Ford.
Turned out the connector where the harness plugs in on top of the tank was worn and not making a good contact. Fuel pump was getting intermittent power when I would hit a bump or probably even when I accelerated hard.

Don't know how yours hooks up, but still could be a loose wire powering the pump somewhere in the system.

What fooled me, was that the front tank was reliably bad. But, sometimes the back tank would act up and sometimes it didn't.

After I replaced the plug on the front tank and started working fine, I broke down and replaced the back one and its good now too.

Both plugs the same age, failing about the same time I guess.

I also replaced the pump/sending units in both tanks when I had the body off, so unplugging the old wires might have contributed to it, or the new connector on the tank may have not had the same thickness connectors.
