How can I use my non-computer hei distributor with my tbi? Reason I want to use the hei, is because the tbi distributor I have doesn't move that freely, and I don't want to rebuild it or buy a new one because i have a basically brand new non-computer hei.

no, you need to use the TBI distributor. All the advance is operated by the computer, and I think the ecm gets other info from it as well.

It's technically possible but you have to modify it and remove the vaccum advance mechanism or lock it down. A $60 tbi distributer is probably less work

check out thirdgen.org and/or cfmtech for more detailed info

Agreed.

Have you checked or asked in the parts wanted/for sale section here? SBC TBI distributors should be dirt cheap. AFAIK even TPI ones (and car TBI) are the same, so thirdgen.org classifieds are another source.

I know you do not want to buy a new one, but here is a reasonbly priced electronic advance (street/strip) GM distributor from Summit Racing (PN# SUM-850200/ $230).

That is crazy high in price for the summit one. I have a brand new one I will sell you for $65 price negotiable. I think it went for like $115ish new from store. It was supposed to be for my 95 with a 350TBI. PM me

Remove the roll pin holding the distributor gear and remove the gear then use lots of WD-40 and work the shaft up and down as you're spinning it until it comes out of the housing and then you can clean the shaft and add a small amount of lube and reassemble and be done, won't cost you anything but a little time.

Just do what Scott said in above post. TBI distributors really dont wear out because there are no advance weights. It should be fine as long as there is not a bunch of side to side slop in the shaft. Either that find one cheap at a wrecking yard or here as said.
There is no way to make a old Stock HEI work with your stock TBI ECM. The module does not have the proper wave length for the ECM to read.
It can be done with a MSD box or a tach filter on your coil but then you only get fuel control. ECM will not control ignition. You will also need some chip programing done so you dont get check engine light.
It would be far cheaper and better to fix your TBI dist or get a used one.

You think the Summit one is expensive, look up the price for a simular spec MSD or Accell distributor.
