TBI dos and don\'t ?

I've got an 87 tbi truck. The motor is blown but the injection stuff is still good. I want to put this in my 84' K5. However I recently built my current motor and I want to know what I can do for performance and simplicity. I've currently got an eldobrock Air Gap intake and a large cam. Is there anyway to keep this stuff or will I need to go with a new cam and use the tbi intake. I know holley makes thier commander kit and it will only bolt to a four barrel intake. Does anyone sell these spacers or adaptors? Also with tbi can I get the comp chip burnt to my specs?

Re: TBI dos and don\'t ?

Don't know about the rest, but you will have no chioce but to have a custom chip burnt. Depending on the cam, it may, or may not work. If someone says that they can burn you a chip just from the information that you send them....run away fast! To burn a chip for a radical cam take many hours of data logging and analyzing it to make small changes, then repeating the process over and over until you get it right. OR you can pay somebody to get the chip close enough to get the engine started and running then do your own datalogging and learn how to burn the chip yourself. That way, after you gain the knowledge, you can make the chip perfect for YOUR engine. Here's a few links to take a peek at.

Edited to add:

IMHO those race track goodies (ie. the intake and cam) will end up disapointing you on the trail. High RPM screamers make wonderful HP numbers, but are hate to lug along while creaping along a tight trail or easing up a long uphill pull. Not trying to tell ya how to build yer rig, just trying to get your to see the real world applications of yer combination, great for the track, but again, IMHO lousy on the trail.

Well just cause it has a "large" cam in it, doesn't mean it wont run with a TBI.. I am running a 383 with a "large" cam and the stock TBI system. Sure it doesn't run like it should, but it runs fine.

Re: TBI dos and don\'t ?

Isnt it MAP? With the cam the computer will think its under a load while idling and run rich. you should get a new prom burnt.
