tbi egr questions

My question is... how far should the valve open when it is funtioning normally. This one only moves up a small amount, maybe 5/16s.

The problem I am having is pinging. Passages to and from valve are unrestricted, it just seems like the valve isnt opening far enough? Valve does hold vaccum, and still only opens this small amount with full manifold vac. to it. Valve will move much further pushing it with my finger.

well, some geniass forgot that I had set the base time at 6 deg over the winter. It has always pinged during really hot weather (even with timing set at 0), and now with cleaned egr passages and correctly set timing, no pinging so far.
