I picked up a good deal on a 454 from an 85 k30 so it's carb'd. I don't plan on modding the motor, just run as is. I would like to use the TBI from my 350 in the 89. Here's some of what i know (or at least think I know) and some questions I have:

  1. I would need big block injectors.
  2. Will the distributor from the TBI350 work? (I was thinking I had read a 454 & 350 use the same.)
  3. Would it be better to find a 454 TBI intake or can I get away with an adapter for the carb intake?
  4. I assume I need a chip for the ECM. In the little bit of research I've done it seems the 454TBI used the 7747 computer but because my 350TBI is in a 1ton it uses the 8747 computer. Can I get a chip for the 8747 that will work with a 454? Just contact a place that burns custom chips?
  5. Any other thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes

Yes

The 4 barrel aftermarket intakes are more efficient. Might research it, but I'd likely plate an aftermarket intake. Consider a spacer
Martin and the gang know more about BBC stuff @82355 @80' 427 @skunked

I have the inj and 7060 computer off of a BBC

Might look for a 7747 ECM while I'm in the yard today...
Help a guy out, I'm looking for a 203 w/ adapter off a 465

Okay. Unfortunately square bodies are getting to be uncommon in the pick n pull up here but I'll keep an eye out.

I do think it looks like the throttle body itself is different for the BBC.

Apparently 454 TBI used a 4-barrel intake with adapter from the factory.

Depending how hard it is to find a big block throttle body, maybe FiTech is the way to go. Especially if I have to buy a new throttle body.

I have the BBC throttle body with injectors

Very interesting. I need to call and chat with you. Or you can come hang out with me at Liam's game in Westminster this morning. LOL

Never know, I like football. Was going to get the taillight and scout the yard.

What time?

Thanks to bent72 for coming to watch football with me and bringing a BBC throttle body!

Was just glad that kid was okay. He laid there a good long time.

Liam said it was a concussion thing. I'm guessing he must have been knocked out for bit.

Found this on Howell's site:

8747 like I have now but for 454, so that looks like it should be easy to put TBI on the 454.

Not a bad price really. I didn't find the ones you needed on the yard

So a little more researching and I find the difference between 7747 and 8747 is the latter doesn't have a knock sensor. So if I want to use that computer above I need to add wiring for the knock sensor. Or a get a new wiring harness which I'd kinda like to do since the previous owner butchered the one I have now in a few places. Aside from that the pin out is the same.

The timing curve in the 8747 is more conservative because it doesn't have a knock sensor.

Interesting thing is I could have sworn my 350 in the truck now has a knock sensor. But I've also long suspected the motor has been swapped at some point in its life.

Hmm, you want that. Especially up here.

Explains some of the power loss on that wheezy 350. So let's find a 7747.
@az_762_nato feel like tuning a BBC?

Remember, that computer I posted has knock sensor capability. However I was reading threads that 8747 PROM couldn't be burned because some needed info isn't available. Our at least it wasn't, may have changed. With the 5.3/6.0 popularity there's not much current TBI mod talk these days.

If you want to steal it for a while I have the info on my Howell wiring harness and 7747 computer that probably talks about that stuff.

When I did the swap I also found the Howell Tech people were knowledgeable and helpful for the couple questions I had.

I gotta come clean here and confess I'm also strongly considering a FiTech or Holley Sniper setup. Obviously price is a huge consideration there.

the one thing I really like about these other systems is their ability to adapt to engine mods or a completely different engine i.e. going from a sbc to a bbc.
