77 Longbed TBI swap.

Have to dump the outside frame saddle tanks. Anyone else done the TBI swap on a longbed, what TBI tank did you use? Anyone mount below the frame rails?

Frame rails under the longbed are 27" wide. The only TBI tank I have found to fit in between is a G20 Van tank which measures 22 x 31 x 12 3/8 and holds 22 gallons. I'd rather have a larger tank but it would have to sit below the frame and that seems like a bad idea to me.

blazer or burban tank fits up in the back of the rails real nice. just need to fab some mounts. real easy. i can post up some pics of the cross members i made to swap in it.

I was just going to use tanks from a newer 87-89 style, those are F.I. and same body style,,,,,or is there something i don't know about them?

The newer saddle tanks sit inboard of the frame. I don't have room in that area so I need a tank placed further back toward the axle. I can't place tanks outboard either because I need to hook into the frame for sliders.

not on the 87-89 style, that's still the same style, i think they changed them from 90 up when the body style changed.

I guess if you need the room for sliders though, that would be the one reason you couldn't use them then,, use a K-5 tank out back

Yep, there isn't much choice regarding sliders with the long wheelbase. The only way to get a full length slider on is by mounting to the frame. The slider support arms would have nowhere to go if the saddle tank was in the way.

few pics of the mounts for a tbi 31 gal blazer tank to long bed truck frame.

first 3 are rear mount made to replace the stock rear crossmember and has cutouts on the sides for wires and or lines to pass threw.

last 2 are front mount just need to bolt in after drilling few holes.

i used 2 lengths of all metal with the holes in it for my straps and got 2 carrage bolts and removed the heads and heated up the flat area and hammered flat. then welded them to the all metal just like stock straps.

truck is hidden under lots of stuff now and box is on the back so i cant get you in frame pics. but if needed i could come close with my friends 1/2 ton frame. as these were made for 1 ton frame.
