My thought was I could easily use an old speedometer setup. I already redid all the gauges and installed a factory tach and mechanical speedometer (that I have yet to bother to hook up...). I just doubt that both setups generate the same signal.

ECM doesn't care, whether from DRAC or from the optical setup the signal to it is the same, at least in regards to the '7747 (TBI) ECM.

Not sure that it helps the OP, but VSS has gotten much easier to run. My preference is electric speedometer, I don't like cable operated. I am unfamiliar with Jeeps, but if it's electric, I'd do everything possible to keep it that way, within reason.
