Is it a crate L03, or just a random crate engine?
From the numbers I've found is a 2 bolt main 95ish block, with smog era heads. I can't remember the numbers on them, the machine shop i had refresh them said they hadn't seen a non cracked set in a long time tho.
I wouldnt expect the random stalling to be related to the engine specs, but how long has it run poorly? Did that just randomly crop up, or was it present since the motor install?
It's ran well the last two years, this just started during a 3 hour road trip earlier this month. This engine was previously in my k5 with a carb on it and ran well.
Probably 882 heads horrible heads for cracking

No unexplained coolant loss and the coolant looks good?
No water in the oil?
Since the plugs looked black, it’s safe to say there’s no coolant in the cylinders otherwise the plugs would be fairly clean, right?

Figure out why the CEL doesnt work, go from there. Do you recall it ever working? Should have always come on with key to run, flashed once, then stayed on until the engine was started.
It could be as simple as a loose wire to or from the CEL, but it could be indicative of something else. IIRC the ECM grounds the CEL to light it, so it could be a ground or other wire/connector issue.
