I need to confirm something about my new TBI in-tank fuel pumps. There is a rubber sleeve , which comes in plastic packaging with the fuel pumps I bought (along with other things). This rubber sleeve goes over the body of the fuel pump. I read the instructions, which came with the pump, but there is no mention of what to do with the rubber sleeve that obviously goes over the body of the pump because a sales brochure images show that it does.

My question is...does this rubber sleeve go over the body of the fuel pump, and inside the tank? Are these rubber sleeves resistant to degradation from fuel? My old fuel pumps did not have these rubber sleeves on them when I pulled them out. I am guessing these rubber sleeves are for vibration dampening.

Yep, in-tank. If you know how old the pump is, you'll have a good idea if it's ethanol resistant or not. I've had similar discussions with myself about the rating of the fuel hose itself...I don't know how long the pumps were sitting around, so unknown if it will fail. If the box says made in Asia somewhere, new enough to be fine with ethanol AFAIK. It's only been the last few years they started farming that stuff outside of North America.

The fuel pumps I bought where AC/DELCO part number EP377. The boxes said they where manufactured in INDIA. I do not know if that is good or bad...probably better than CHINA. I think the old fuel pumps that came out of the tanks were factory GM ones. They had factory GM part numbers stamped into the body, but no rubber sleeve on them...like what come with all new TBI in-tank pumps today. Thanks for the reply.

First I've heard of India. I'd agree with that being better than China...but the "Anchor" brand rubber engine mounts I got were from India, and they didn't last at all. :(

Totally different apps, we can only rely on Delco to spec the right stuff to them, and do the QC to make sure they are using the spec'd materials. We'll have no clue until they fail, or don't.
