Tbi motor build....

the thing is that this is going on a 93 so emissons (egr) is a must.

do they have visual inspections of the engine compartment, and is it a chassis dyno test or just sniffing the tailpipe?

honestly im not really sure what ct does. i know they strap it to a dyno. not sure about visual inspection. i found a few manifolds cheap on ebay so ill prolly go that route.

if they have a visual inspection, a savvy inpector will notice the vortec heads and fail you on the spot. if you are running the 96-99 style heads, it should be 96-99 vortec everywhere else. evap system, obd II system.

but then again, maybe he/she wont notice.

and good luck getting a modded tbi system to pass an im240 chassis dyno emission test. guess you could burn a lean tune into a chip, then swap it in and hope for the best.

TBI motor

Chevy used to have a system called A.I.R that used a pump to pump air into the exhaust, had a hook up on the exhaust manifold. make your own and pump compressed air into the exhaust. Then you could run Nitro and still pass. GM said it helped with burning up gases that were still present, I think it just diluted the exhaust gases.

what it did was add air to the exhaust and so anything leftoer would burn in the cats better. the more oxygen the better the cats worked. How much do you think id be able to get away with and stay with tbi? i mean i could always swap in an lt1 again... but then again they hate water... or hell a vortec if i can find one. Honestly at the moment i have even had the block machined or hell even fully dissasemled, but im just trying to plan my build.

how much you can get away with depends on your tuning ability.

it may even take a couple of failed tests with some trial and error to get it to pass. maybe im just being pessimistic. it may pass just fine. just stay conservative on the cam.

man im glad i aint gotta mess with all that inspection stuff were im from sounds like alot of head ache with engine mods and all , good luck with it.

yeah that was the best thing about the 79 or ah i mean 84 regitered as a 79:whistle: i think in the end it will be worth it but hey well see:o

We have some real anal ones, but everything that's not in the big cities is just visual. The guy who I take mine to, checks the blinkers, horn, brakes, lights, opens the hood to see if there is an engine, and if you meet all criteria, you pass.

I think he focuses on what inspections were meant for. Safety.

no, we dont have inspections, we have emissons 2 compltely differant things. inspections are only for comm. and grey market vechicles.

thats why im doing a 93 c1500 build up, cause no one will know that it wasnt supposed to be a solid axle 4x4:rolleyes: Also the state doesnt do our emissons, its done through local shops that are state approved. i talked to a buddy of mine and might have a lead on a shop that will hook me up:D jsut if i get pulled over or anything i changed it after i went to them... but shhhhh i didnt just say that

Go 383, vortec heads, al. roller rockers. The stuff can be had cheap enough if you know where to look. This motor is built with the same specs as gm's 383 ht (340 HP 435 TQ) but with a TBI system. Plenty of power if you ask me.:D
looks great. what headers you running?

Dudley

Im running flowtech's. Everyone says that thier headers hit the shackles, but I have about a 2-2.5 inch clearance. I put some header wrap on em, supposed to lower underhood temps by up to 70%!!!!
