buddys tbi 350 in 88 blazer no run after new dist.

he had a noise from old dist and pulled cap to find pickup coil falling apart. so he got a reman dist and droped it in with new cap/rotor plugs wires.

now it wont fire. we just checked and have solid bright spark.
we have fuel pump .

funny thing is try and start it looks like its DUMPING fuel from injectors like a water fall. but if you give it full throttle or little less it thins out to min amount and pops a few times .

i said pull the plugs let it vent out and would ask here. and some of the plugs were dripping wet with fuel. and we only tryed to fire it 4-5 times the way it was.

also there was a map or cirket code in it 34 i think.

also the scanner shows -40* for data input to scanner/computer.

and we checked all the plugs there all pluged in and solid .

any tips guys ? thanks. and p.s. we even stuck in the computer from my truck i drove there and home just incause it was that. and we even had a brand new dist swaped in also from my colection .

Is the distributor rotated 180 degrees. That's a common problem when replacing the distributor

temp sensor for coolent

and we redid the dist location to be sure.

rolled over till #1 plug hole poofed and pushed finger off. then got it rolled to 0* on balencer . set the dist in and set rotor to point at #1 plug terminal.

i admit i dont rarly do dist work or have one out these days so mabye we got it wrong ? :dunno:

and 2 plugs in dist modu go to the driverside like stock. even turned the body left/right still the same results.

we think it drowning the motor in fuel and flooding it. i dont recall a good spray pattern to look like niagra falls. its not a mist but a solid wall/cone of fuel .

There are two spots the balancer will line up with 0.
It's something that is worth a double check. Use a straw or something and check to see that the piston is at TDC.

Fuel I don't have an answer. Maybe the o-rings are leaking at the base of the injectors?
You could always disconnect the injectors pour a little fuel down then start it. It should run briefly then die when it runs out of gas.

The reason i mention temp sensor is if the computer thinks that its -40 out, it will add fuel to beat hell.

Far as the dist goes, do you have a timing light?

Unless it's -40C where you are you've already found the issue of why it's dumping fuel and not running. Fix CTS, the one near thermastat not the other temp gauge sensor, dry out cylinders and plugs and it'll run.

Fuel amount will thin out when throttle blades are opened, TPS% will be in clear flood mode.

Just a word of warning here...

If the injectors are literally dumping fuel into the engine, beware of a fire hazard. I only say this because I had a similar issue, except my engine was hydrolocked from so much gas being in the pistons! I took the spark plugs out and turned the motor over to blow the gas out, right?

Unfortunately, the thing I forgot to do was remove the wire from the coil. Of course, there was a ton of gas expelled from the pistons, and then there was a spark, and then there was a huge ball of fire. Luckily there was not a lot of damage but it could have been a disaster.

My suggestion is to have a known working fire extinguisher nearby if you decide to blow out the cylinders.

Pics attached for your chuckles. The last shot is the gasoline that came out the exhaust system!

I hate when that happens! :eek1:

Glad you still have a truck!

Also if you have been dumping fuel because of a bad CTS then change the oil as well. At least sniff the dipstick for gas fumes...

he called me today .

stoped and got a coolent temp sensor for it . replaced it in the intake and it fired up .

crazy it dumps that much fuel in there it wont run . :dunno:

anyways live and learn . :doah:
