tbi performance, whos done what with good results

GM part number #17113186. Got if from the chevy dealer in town. My cost was $57.66.

I will let you know in a few days how it works. I still need to wire mire 4-wire O2 though...

Hey Whoa!

Where can you find the adapter TPS connector if your switching from a 350 TBI to a late model 454 TBI? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

I installed a 1 inch Araid spacer cause I got it cheap.
And I got some fuel line extenders to hook it up without rubbing. But I don't think I got the TV cable adjusted that well as I didn't get anything to lenghten to adjust the linkage in it. Does anyone have a place that I can get parts to adjust the linkage?

Thanks

Tim

Anybody know if there is a TV cable mounting adjustment or lengthen or something that I can use the Araid spacer to get my TV cable in better adjustment?

Tim

Just an update, I installed my vacuum referenced FPR...WOW what a difference. I still need to put in my 4-wire o2 sensor. But the 454 runs so much better with more fuel under higher load...
It sits at about 12psi at idle and at high load, WOT goes to about 18psi.

Hey, Read this you TBI techs so I don't gotta make a new post /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Is there a difference between the fuel pressure regulators on a 90' 5.7L TBI and a late model 7.4L TBI regulator? Are there PSI differences?

Yes there is a difference.

87-93 454 TBI run the 9-13 psi that the 5.7L's run.
94-95 454 TBI run a 32-35 psi regulator. The 94-95 injectors are different p/n's as compared to the '93 and down units, but I do not know what the internal differences are.

what is the stock cfm of a 5.7 tbi
vs. a 454 tbi?

And does the 454 tbi bolt up to replace a 350 tbi unit?

I am having problems getting enough cfm/vaccum/adomization on my built sbc and was wondering if a bbc tbi would allow more air without extra fuel.

tia.

the stock 454 is 670 cfm, i dont know what the stock smallblock is, but for some reason im thinkin its low 500's. You could theoretically use a bbc tbi w/ 350 injectors,or maybe even the 350 cop injectors (i believe they are a few more ppm), but I dont know if the bbc will bolt up in place of the sbc one.

Since I'm down to chasing out the last few bugs with my setup, I'll jump into the fray. I started out by replacing my exhaust after the origional system rotted away. I had the muffler shop make me up a MUCH better "Y" pipe going into a 3" in and out cat closely followed by a 3" in and dual 2 1/4" outlet turbo muffler and the pipes exit on either side my hitch under the bumper.

The next upgrade was a 670cfm Holley TBI and a twin snorkel RAM AIR BOX (http://www.ramairbox.com/product.html), that is until I forgot that I had left my trail toolbox on top of the fiberglass filter housing after a quicky trail repair and shut the hood /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif.

Next I went over to thirdgen.org and started reading and learning about chip tuning. Then I got a hold of Brain over at TBI chips.com and went about datalogging and burning a custom chip. BTW, Brian is a really good guy and can get your chip very close to perfect for a really great price. After that, you are on your own to further tweak your chip.

So far I'm satisified with the results. I'm running the same tire combo as you, but with 3:42 gears and can pull my 20' (4200lb) boat in OD without much problem. The ricers in my area freak when I nail it and the front end of the beast rises up a bit and then all they get to see are my tail lights. BTW I've done this twice (one huge winged neon /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif and one fart canned hundi /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif) while pulling my boat!

I'm saving up to regear to 4:10's and can't wait to feel the results! On a side note, your bolt-on upgrades won't give you nearly as much power as they are capable of unless you can adjust your fuel mixture and timing to take advantage of them by chip tuning.
