TBI sending unit won't sit flush with the tank

It's angled up one side. It's letting air escape during the smog "fuel system pressure" test. Any ideas?

Are you recommending someone "nice"? It's just going to fail again.

about 10 years ago I had to go through the ringer with my 77, 400 dollars later convinced me to never get anything that required smog again, explain a little more in detail on whats going on? any pics?

sounds like the you have the sending unit for a larger tank - if I'm understanding the problem correct.

take off the fill hose and bulk head it before you go to the smog test

If the lock ring fits without the sender in the tank but wont tighten with it in. Look at the gasket not sitting around the sender properly. Also check the heighth of the sender on a bench. Than measure the depth of the tank. You can guess which measurement should be larger.

You might have dirt buildup or something between the bottom of tank and skidplate.If not, take the tank down,take out pump and put a baseball bat through the hole and beat it till it fits!
