im wanting to swap tbi to my 76 k10. it has a freshly rebuilt engine with a edelbrock performer intake and hooker headers. im going to the junk yard to get everything. and im wondering what year should i look for and what will i need from the donor?

I like my '87 the best.........I swapped in a '91 rebuilt engine and had all of the '91 stuff but because it was '87 I swapped over my stuff onto it. I still have a '87 TBI and a '91 TBI just sitting here.
I would assume that for best results you will need the correct intake! I'm sure the intake you have will work, but the OEM intake works well.

If you want to save some money, I'll give you either the '91 or the '87 TBI unit that I have for the cost of shipping! Find out how much it will cost in the junk yard first and we'll go from there.........I know for sure that the harness for the '87 was different for the '91!

im going to hit some junk yards tomorrow to see what i can get, hoping to get pre 90's tbi, i heard the ecms are better. when they say harness is it just for tbi only? or im i going to have to take the hole front end wiring?

You pretty much need to take the entire harness from the ECM to all of the sensors(get the sensors too) and to the TBI. When in doubt, get it all!
Make sure you get all of the vacuum lines too! And take a camera and take pictues!!!

I set up my TBI on the bench first. I made sure everything worked before I installed the TBI system. I also programmed my own PROM chip, to eliminate all the emission stuff I did not need and some extra performance. I used a Van harness that has the round plug you see in the middle of the picture. Looks factory in the vehicle.
