TBI swap wiring question

I can't recall, the screw MAY be a self tapper, although it's very small.

If you've got wrecking yards near you, I'd just consider getting a speedometer already tapped.

Speedometer, or a whole cluster?

Now that I`ve decided to stay with mechanical speedo, is it possible to use VSS with an aftermarket mechanical speedometer, such as an Autometer, so that I don`t have to worry about not having it for the ECM?

Speedometer. Since there is no electrical input to the speedometer, any of the mechanicals will bolt in for the years we are talking. Most places I deal with will only sell a whole cluster, but many times the clusters are half taken apart already anyways, so the cost goes down.

I don't believe aftermarket speedometers are designed for this type of VSS. They might though, since this setup is the same for all GM vehicles with a cable throughout most of the '80's, so a huge market. I just have never dealt with them. For all I know they could make one with the signal generator built into the speedometer. :) That's where the "inline" VSS that jagsthatrun sells come in.
