How could I extend my tbi 350 air cleaner stud so I can put tall air filter on it is there something I can buy like a extender or something thanks everyone

hardware store

length of threaded rod same thread as the one you got .

cut and bend to length . just wont be as strong as stock .

install.

problem is tho not the size of the filter . its the 1 small inlet horn on the base . lots of guys add a second from doner base to make twin snorkel . then add a tbi salad bowl from hypertech and cut the base out and that will let the air in .

Is there space to close the hood with a tall air filter? I thought it was pretty tight in there.

Google "ultimate TBI" if you want to get a bit more out of it. I've done most of those mods (just haven't done the salad bowl yet) and I've been pleased.

I used a 84 305 lid and element in mine. Welded a bolt to my stud.

And, once you get that taller filter in there, what do you do about the lid not closing against the bottom? Taller filter, sure. But now your engine is ingesting all that HOT underhood air = power loss. May as well go and buy one of them thar chrome open element air cleaners. :haha:

As stated, the stock filter is just fine for the TBI. If you think it needs to breath better, do the dual snorkel mod.

Well I have a 4 inch cowl induction hood for it I just think it would look badass and give me some power but I Gus not then

try to run 1 mile with breathing threw your nose . . . .

then try it again with your mouth open . . .

there is some mods to do to tbi system to get good accurate results.

we have a injection section with lots of info .

also stock tbi cam's SUCK for power. but if you swap one it will require correct choice and custom chip . NOT off the shelf chip . the injection section moderator is a chip burning guy also .

So, what you're saying, is you believe that the stock TBI intake system, was only designed to operate at idle?

The smallest openings in the intake are the throttle body bores, both of them combined do not equal the size of the opening on the cold air intake tube, not the oval shaped intake snorkle of the housing. You can only pull so much air though thos throttle body bores anyways.

I can see if the engine was made to produce big power, but a stockish TBI?

and the word you need to figure out how to use, is THROUGH... :waytogo:

it's not the volume of air, it's HOW it feeds in with the salad bowl.. there's a diagram kicking around that shows the crappy air velocity you get with the factory ring/air cleaner assembly and what the salad bowl does....

did someone say salad bowl? supersized ? :haha:

I wasn't saying anything in regards to the salad bowl, I get that idea :D Mainly the idea that a lot of people get that makes them think dual snorkles or bigger openings on the intake tube, or flipped air cleaner lids are a big time horsepower adder, for a stock engine, that's already being choked by the camshaft and throttle bores.

Although I do remember seeing one model of air cleaner with a coned down shape inlet of about 2", I thought that was weird.

right.. my rig is a perfect example... the mill is stock, but as with getting headers on, they are both very important steps to building hp... can never have too much air.... but down the road when it's a 383 with AFR heads and a bumpstick, it'll like the air even more...

mine's actually for watercrossings.... :pimp:
