Guys, looking for suggestions on going forward on this, about ready to say F it and go carb or upgrade to a Vortec MFI. 1987 Chevy V10 350/700r4. Was having an issue with the truck dieing when putting into gear. From reading the posts I believe the consensus would be a vacuum leak. The intake was leaking antifreeze anyways so I had the intake manifold gaskets replaced. The issue now it that with the computer plugged in it will pop out of the intake and you can hear popping in the exhaust. When you have the distributor lead(brown/black) wire disconnected the truck will run and is drivable, but cannot get the timing to 0 degree TDC per the cowl tag. Seems to be at 8 degrees, when trying to retard the distributor further the truck will die. When the truck is Idling at operating temp and I advance the timing on the gun it says 21 degrees advanced(the distributor lead still unplugged). The mechanic suggested that the balancer ring might have slipped causing the timing mark to be off. Should I order a new harmonic balancer to try to fix the issue or bump the NO. 1 cylinder to TDC and mark the balancer to see if it is off. Or mark the distributor when it dies retarded and when it dies advanced and split the difference and try plugging in the computer. I have replaced the following sensors with in the last 6 months to try and get it running better. The last code I got was a 43 ESC or knock sensor fault. Any help would be great.
EGR
ESC
EGR controller
Knock sensor
Cap/rotor/spark plugs/wires
Distributor is about a year old
Ignition control module
Vacum lines were replaced /checked when intake gaskets were changed
