So on my 89 with a rebuilt 355 lately it has been acting up but only after say about an hour of driving. at first i had thought it was my fuel filter that i replaced about 4 months ago now so i put in a new one and thought i had it cured but again today after about 2 hours of driving it falls flat on its face so the rpm goes from say 1600 to 1000 and trying to accelerate is diffucult unless you floor it and it will pick up like someone flicked a switch. also the tank in the truck is about 3 years old and the pump is a year old and from napa. so i also noticed that at idle when i was watching the 2 injectors that it seemed like they were both dripping at idle (550-650) but when i gave it gass the pattern looked good and they were both the same. so i put in some fuel injector cleaner in the last tank and am now about a 1/4 way into it. Is there anyway to clena out the injectors yourself? so ive read other posts about this problem and am thinking about the ignition control module and maybe the egr? not to sure where the ignition module is but i was also thinking about a coil too. so any help would be very appreciated. i need to go back up to the bush hunting

If you are getting injector pulsing, it's likely not your ignition that's bad.

How's your system voltage? Fuel pressure would be another test I'd run.

Is it possible to disconnect the vacuum source from the fuel pressure regulator on TBI?

No vacuum on TBI regulators. There is a marine application for TBI big blocks that uses a vaccum referenced FPR for fuel savings. But none on vehicles that I know of.

First I would check for trouble codes. If there are none try replacing the ignition module. The ignition module is the black box inside the distributor.
Also would not hurt to check the fuel pressure.
Does the truck start easy?

thanks guys ill try to get a code reader on it soon but i drove it up to the bush and on the 300km 4hour trip it only acting up 2 miles before our camp lol and it didnt even stall but bogged down hard like and i could continue if i gave it a good bit more gas. so i dont know what to think now lol i left it up there for now it still starts and i was using it up there for like an hour no problems but i brought back my friends burban to bring more people back lol. so any more ideas? i think im gonna get a fuel gague under the hood soon

Once you get it back to Edmonton, shoot me a PM and I'll try to make time to come take a look at it for you :)

So i just got back in tonight and the drive home wasnt to bad but it still wanted to stall but i didnt let it lol the problem seems to be that it likes to drop down to like 1000rpm. still wondering what is up.

I will be free tomorrow afternoon after 3:00, and after 4:00 on Wednesday. On Thursday night I'll be out of town till the following Sunday night.

Unfortunately, to do anything useful I'll need to secure an ALDL scanner and a laptop to hook up to your truck. I no longer have either my laptop, or data cable. I gave the Cable to Can Can here on the site, and sold my laptop a while back.

If you have a laptop, I can probably build a cable tomorrow evening though :)

I'll probally need a few hours after school today to buy the parts for and assemble the data cable, PM me your number and I'll call you when I'm ready.

i understand but im credit card less lol i guess its time for paypal lol. im a computer tech by the way so i do have plenty of cables what do you need to make em?

I need a female serial cable connector (to go into the lappy), cigarette lighter, couple switching transistors and a zener diode. I've got the zener on hand, but couldn't find the switching transistors I need at the local radio shack this afternoon.

I didn't really want to run all the way to Sherwood Park to stop at the shop I know, nor did I know where else to look despite at Kingsway (don't know the city that well yet)

Do you know if your laptop's serial ports output 5V or not?

On most desktops you're good to go, but some laptops won't provide the 5 volts needed. My old one did, but we'd have to probe yours and see which pin provides the power.
