Can anyone confirm or deny GM putting factory tach in the 1987-91 trucks with EFI? The latest I have seen is 1986.
Is it possible to to convert a 90 model to factory tach, if it wasn't an option?

Thanks, Jimbo

i dunno if it was ever a factory option in the TBI era, but I did convert my 90 to tach dash. The only tedious part was trying to isolate which wires that came to the cluster were for the fuel gauge. Then I wired the small fuel gauge directly using bullet connectors on the back of the gauge. The tach itself is a stand alone part anyways, and not only does it hook up just like any aftermarket tach, the connectors on the back of it are labelled.

I've seen a few, in person and pics.

I looked at an '88 or '89 V3500 once for sale and it had a tach. I know it was an unmolested truck because it was a work truck used in the oil fields.

Another member here has an '87 V30 with the tach also.

Those are the 2 most recent ones I think of right off the bat but I have seen others before.

Wow! Ask and ye shall receive!!
Thanks guys; I figured it was possible, but now know for sure it can be done. I was unsure if with the (new at the time) TBI distributer and VSS if the instrument cluster could handle one more function.

the tbi dist wiring has the tach pig tail from the 1 coil wire right there from the factory . so i dont see why not .
