My 88 k5 will start and run just fine and will idle for a few seconds then it dies, no matter if it is warm or cold,

any one have any ideas?

If it`s not one of the other things mentioned a bad oil pressure senser might do it, the truck starts, and will run for say 15-20 seconds then the computer notices no oil pressure and shuts off. Starts right up and does the same thing over and over, very madening. The sensor is under the distributor next to the back of the firewall too which makes it a bugger to get out. There must be a way to check this for sure though as it`s a pain to do if that`s not the cause. Good luck.

I agree, classic symptom.
The computer runs the pump for a few seconds when the key is turned on or the engine is cranked otherwise it’s up to the oil pressure sender to turn it on/ keep it running.
There is a priming connector at the fuel pump relay, run 12V to it to make the pump run or unplug the relay and jumper the fuel pump circuit. I've seen this several times, at least two of them the sender had been unplugged. If your truck stays running with the fuel pump hotwired, odds are good that you have an oil pressure problem, a sender problem, and/or a wiring problem.

Couldn't be farther from the truth. The switch next to the distributor is actually a backup fail safe in case the fuel pump relay goes bad. If the fuel pump relay goes bad then this switch will allow the fuel pump to run AS LONG AS it sees 5 psi of oil pressure.
