Tbi454 w 69k issue

Yeah Greg, with all hope I'll pull the front clip this winter and slide a 12 valve in there.. That's y I just wanted to get-er up and running and not sink a bunch I'd Ching into it now...

QUESTION: is a 1994 GM tbi 454 compatable with my 88 v30 or is there something radically different about it?

it is a gen v so not exactly the same, the flexplate/flywheel is different and internally it is different but it will bolt in place.

the sensors maybe different. The long block it the same. It would be best to have them side by side to compare.

Your flexplate will NOT work. You need one for that engine so if it has one it should work. The 1 piece crank has a different balance.

I hear ya... I'm really under the gun to get the truck up and running and there's a 94 in Newhampshire w 74k on it that I'd like to go get.. My other deal fell through.. At this point maybe I could build a top end up for less hassle...

Do a compression test, it will tell you what is really up. Timing chains do break but not that often. I would think stupid simple to be sure.

If it were me, I would pull the heads, do a valve job, new timing chain and rock on, it is simple and cheap and you can apply the savings to your upcoming 12 valve conversion.

Greg, your right. Considering the guy who had the "low mile 454" I was gunna buy texted me last night saying the motor wasn't what he thought. I'll be looking to do a valve job or for a set of oval port cast iron heads and match a tbi intake to them.

Good possibility this engine has smaller injectors and much more fuel pressure. But your TBI on it will fix that...

You really stripped a timing gear at 69k miles? At 169K or more I could see? Usually they go bad/strip during a cold morning start, not driving warmed up... strange.

If it's a 69K engine doing heads, cam chain etc... would be worthy. Bent valves I've seen don't hurt a piston...

Yeah, 69k, I bought the truck from the original owner w 30k in late 08. This truck has seen some daily duty for the last 4 years. Running between -10 degrees in Maine to 110 degrees in St.Croix and putting around on the island to four heavy towing runs this summer between R.I. and Maine. The truck has has the speedo buried on numerous occasions. I haven't beaten it but it has run hard. My buddy and I talked this afternoon and I guess what I'm gunna do is rebuild the heads (or put some oval ports on it) *could these work w my intake?* cam, headers, timing set up, and call it good until this winter.

Yes the intake will work. It is smaller than the head but it will work fine.
