Hey guys/girls, I am pretty new to working on 4WD's and have a question for you all. I have a 79 and both axles are in need of replacement. A friend of mine just happens to have both axles out of his 97 dodge 3500 and has offered them to me. They are Dana 60 and 70 but the 60 is a drivers side diff. Are there any TC's with a driver side drop that are user friendly? I looked through the forums/google/you tube but havent found much info on this subject. Any suggestions?

Well you 79 might prove a little harder to accommodate.
What transmission do you have?
And are you willing to change the transmission too if your transmission doesn't have options?
The gmt400 chevy came with driver's side drop but they are all round 6 bolt pattern.
Let us know what transmission and tcase you have and we can tell you what options you have

As of right now, the factory manual 4 speed is in it. I have a 350 in the shop being prepared for a rebuild.

The front is a CAD design and will be more work than it's worth. If you want to go thru all the work of cutting old brackets and trying to build spring pads look into a super duty front axle
All of the Super Duty front ends have the diff offset too far to put leaf spring perches on at the ~32" that the square bodies have. You'd end up with a perch on top of the pumpkin.

I'll echo the advise to not use the '94+ Dodge front end, they really have no redeeming qualities. They're cheap and easy to find because nobody wants them, other than to replace a wrecked one in an old Dodge.

You don't mention what axles you are replacing or what model vehicle you are working on, but you should be able to find a good set of Chevy squarebody axles that are a direct replacement for much less than the cost to make those Dodge axles work.
