now i know this is a common problem. and i didnt know the signs of a ujoint about to go out(vibrating and such) but does anyone know the name of the arm that comes out the back of the tcase and connects to the rear driveshaft . this is probably a stupid question...but can anyone show me a picture of what one looks like up close where it connects to the joint?

well if u have a 208 transfer case.. its called a slip yoke...

this is what it looks like... at a bad angle..

87 blazer, i do not know how to take out the old u joint or put new ones in...but i can search for that material. what size joints would i need for this

ok, last question before i tackle this thing(had mild case of food poisoning yesterday so couldnt work on it). when the drive shaft came off, the slip yoke slithered its way out of the tcase....im pretty sure my guess was correct but is the pinkish fluid that came out Transmission fluid? if it is, can i just pour some more in the spot under the hood, or is there a certain place to pour it in the tcase

Some tcases use trans fluid, some use oil. The tcase has a fill plug that is visable from the dshaft area. Where in Tx are you?

im in san angelo, my mom lives in dallas (east, rowlett)

im pretty sure it was trans fluid because it was bright red/pink

no, unfortunately im not in Rowlett....im in San angelo. but if yall are ever in San angelo or near it let me know. my friend is getting a clamp so ill hopefully be able to get the rest of the dshaft off.

A quick answer is to pull the retaining clip off of the ujoint and, using a socket, hammer out the ujoint cap, then do the same for the other side.

i dont know where tje PM settings are, i looked in all of my options(sorry im a complete newbie at vehicles and forums).

it would be better to completely take off the entire driveshaft than to just try and put the ujoint back onto the yoke? also, all of these sites talk about not knocking the needle bearings out. i must not have done this because i havent seen any fall out or anything different in the bearings and joints.

I've never seen anyone do it with the dshaft in. Be sure to block the wheels and set the parking brake. I sent you an email with my phone #.

thank you sir. ive already got the brake on and wheels blocked.
if you havent noticed by now, im 16 years old, so my tools and knowledge is limited, but that you for your help.

after all the site has helped me, im going to fork over my 25 dollars pretty soon.

anyway, an update. took the driveshaft completely off got both ujoints removed and replaced with new but then had to go to work. i am off work now, but it is midnite so i will have to replace tomorrow afternoon. once i hook it back up, how much trans fluid should be poured into the tcase? ive only got a quart handy but ive never rebuilt or even opend a tcase before. i know for sure it takes trans fluid because the fluid that came out is pink.
