TDC problem.

Iam helping a friend swaping his B18 (1.8 liter) volvo engine out of his Antitank wehicle. He found a donor out of his chevy van. Its a 305 year 84. We have kind of lost timing. So how many degrees TDC is a 305 1984?

If i am understanding your question right TDC should be 0 degrees with the number 1 pistion in full up stoke..

as for ignition timming i would start at 6 degreeb before tdc..

12 degress BTDC on a 305?...wow never heard that.. my 350HO with high compression and 93 octane gas is only at 10 btdc....
 
wow big differance in base timing here so far. my 305 would run like crap at anything less. wonder if altitude was part of that.

Yes but look at the picture, were talking about what apeard to be a stock 305 low compression, maybe 120hp if he is lucky..

and there is a slight difference between a 400 and a 305..

6 or 4 btdc is a good place to start

Yeah, but dont forget your elevation, I run 12-14 in the White mtn,s and 8 here in Tucson. BTW I pm'ed ya.I'll get you info tonight on discs.
 
Yeaa. Lots of numers to test..... So far, actually earlier to day we tried 8 deg BTDC and it did NOT work (thats what my chevy 76 run).

Sheoldeblaze! You are a real "sharpeye". Yepp its a stock 305 120 hp. But alot mor fun than its original B18 aprox 40 HP!!!! Iam great thankful for all of your kvick answers. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

1 piston at tdc and both valves CLOSED, thats tdc, otherwise your 180 out.
That is checked out. It have been running, but just for some minutes and then it loses power and stops and wont start up!

fuel blockage? if not then check ignition module, coil
