I just picked up a 10b 8 lug and a 14bff and I have a couple of questions.
From the research I have done on here I think that I know what I am talking about but, please tell me if I am wrong.

1. My 14b has disc brake brakets on it. I can use standard front 10b calipers (I have brand new ones on my old front axle) or caddi calipers (if I want and e-brake?

2. For the rear rotors. I can use standard front rotors from a 8 lug 10b?

3. The rear studs. Do I have to get longer studs for the rotors or will the stock ones be long enough?

4. Other than the brake parts the only thing that I will need to install it is a conversion joint for the drive shaft?

Thanks in advance

1. you need 3/4 ton truck front calipers or caddy ones
2. 3/4 ton truck rotors, e.g 75
3. i believe reg studs are ok
4. yes, but you need spring plates and u-bolts from 14bolt

Thank you. Wanted to make sure before I go spend more $ without the wife knowing. :D

3. regular 14b studs are ok as long as your running steel wheels, aluminum or mag wheels require a longer stud...

I ran hummer h2 wheels, change studs out to drw studs, theyre like 1/2" longer IIRC.

Yep, just running stock steel wheels for now. Do you think that I should go ahead and put drw studs in just in case I run different wheels in the future?

1. Any 1/2 or 3/4 ton D44 or 10 bolt front caliper OR 76-78 Caddy Eldo caliper to retain an E-brake.

2. 3/4 ton rotors from any 73-87 4x4

3. If the 14ff had the 13" brakes those studs will work but if it has the small 11" drums then they will need to be changed. Also sometimes you have to machine the outer diameter of the wheel stud head so that it fits into the recess on the backside of the rotor.

4. Conversion U-joint, U-bolts and top plates.

How can I tell what brakes were on it. When I picked it up the drums were all ready removed and the disc brake brakets installed. I only have 4 studs so I need to buy new ones anyway. Will it be pretty obvious which studs I will need when I compare them to the size of the rotor hole?

I was told that the axles came out of a 78 3/4 sub. If that is true then I do not need to put on new top plates correct?

if you have the 3/4 ton plates, you will be fine, just cant use the 1/2 ton/blazer top plates.

The plates you are talking about are the ones that hold the spring together? Sorry for the questions. I've never swapped in bigger axles before.

the ones the ubolts go thru and the 4 nuts are on top of, the spacing on the 4 holes is different based on the size of the axle tube.

i would not suggest modifiying the 1/2 ton ones, Id recommend used ones from the junkyard or new ones from a vendor. Or you could make your own out of 1/2 or 3/4 inch plate and a drill press...
