Ive had this noise for a while..... so took the pump out went to Napa for a new" one and it made the same noise when i turned the thingy on the counter, so i wondered is it normal??? ive never heard of this noise before..

Dont know what clanking sound its making, but i dont think it should be making it. Is tbis a sound when its on the rig and running at idle?

Yes at idle after a lil drive... i hardly hear it when i dont drive the truck. (engine on)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the new one from Napa does it, like if it had play

Man, if you hear it AT ALL when you are not driving the truck, then I think you may have problems K5 can't help with.........:dunno:

But, I think most of those pumps are vane type pumps. If so, then with it empty and sitting on a bench, you might hear the vanes moving back and forth as you turn it.
But you would not hear that with it on the truck.

Kinda reminds me of the guy standing with his ear to a telephone pole. Hour later, he is still there.
Guy stops and asks him whats going on.
The guy tells him to listen.

Puts his ear to the pole, listens. Finally tells the guy he does not hear a thing.
Guy nods gravely. Yep, been like that all day........

haha well maybe i didnt explain it correctly.

engine on, truck parked, no run time at all theres no noise... if i drive it a certain amount of lenghts (giving work to the pump) then the noise is clear and damn clack clack from the pump, the level is good.

Does it change rate with engine speed? It should if its in the pump.
Problem is, even at idle, that pump is turning awful fast.
If something were hitting the side just once per revolution, I would think it would sound more like a burring sound than a clank clank.
Before I went to any more trouble, I would try the broomhandle or long screwdriver trick.
Carefully, of course.
That is where you touch the end of something solid to the side of the pump and then put the other end to your ear.
If you do not hear the sound loudly, then its usually coming from somewhere else.

Like the alternator, or some other moving part.

i used a hose last time.

WAYY too much information..........I gotta go to bed. Been up too long too many times.
Getting silly...

Let me think on it until tomorrow.....
