I got a 350 being built, 40 over with 305 heads (big valves), not sure on the valve size yet. whats a good cam that will work for offroading, specially climbing.

I'll get some better #'s when i here back for the engine shop.

I like the Comp Cams 4x4 Xtreme series. I had one in my 350 and it made good power in the 1500-2000rpm range. It would also rev up to 6500rpm with no problems. I had the next to biggest one, 262 grind I think.

No 305 head came with "big" valves.
WP's makes some but...
Toss the heads in the scrap pile and start over.
You do not want to put 305 heads no matter what valve size on a .040 over 350.
The only way I would run 305 heads is on a 305 plant.
Choose a better set of heads before you start to factor in a cam or other upgrades.
Stock SBC heads like 882's and a few other castings are plentiful but usualy require some help.
And for the money involved to rebuild em you can get a set of WP's SR torquers with 2.02 valves for just a lil bit more.
While on my head hunt I accumulated 4 sets of HD stock castings with 1.94 valves but the cost to rebuild them was not justifiable.
I wound up trading a .040 over 454 core block for a set of fresh 993 heads.
I tossed all but the 71 LT1 castings in the scrap pile.

I built almost the same setup. But .30 over.. It was a great truck lots of low end torque. People will knock you for putting the 305 heads in.. But it ran great for me... Just didn't like anything over 6000 rpms....LOL

Running great for me was a 355 with flat tops(never did the math on it)882's with 1.94s mild work and port matched to an Ebrock rpm with a q-jet I robbed off a 454 burb.
I was clocked at the top of Rainier hill at over 120 mph.
2 mile 6% grade, utility bed full of tools and gear.
Started at the light which is at the bottom of the hill.
grampy exhaust, all ya could hear when ya nailed it was air being sucked in.
Not that 305 heads won't work on a 350+ but I would never do it.
It took me 3 days to get from St. Pete Fl to here with everything I owned in that rig.
I was clocking MM's at 28 seconds.
