First off, thanks to the guys who helped me ID this thing the other day. It seems to be mid 70's 2wd 3/4 ton model.

Now I'm trying to get a parts list together for a rebuild. I am thinking about a disc conversion, new ring & pinion, and all new bearings (& seals). I found this kit and like that it's a one stop shop for the conversion...... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...go=DR&its=S%2BI%2BSS&itu=ISS%2BUCI%2BSI&otn=6
I really don't know the in's-n-out's of these axles enough to head to the local NAPA and start buying stuff piecemeal. I have been reading but just can't seem to get a grasp on what all I'm gonna need to get this running in my '90. Am I on the right track? Is there a parts list compiled somewhere? Advice & direction wanted please :D

find a good diff guy to set up the r/p....he can probably set you up with the rebuild kit too.

After you get the parts you need, you can set up the gears yourself. The 14b has got to be one of the easiest axles to set up gears in. The only real special tools needed are a press and a torque wrench.

You'll also need a torque wrench that reads inch-lbs (to set the pinion bearing preload) and a dial indicator with some kind of base (to set the backlash).

The gear setup article on pirate is good and if you decide to undertake this project there are several of us on here that can help you (I've setup 25-30 diffs).

If you're going to learn on a diff, a FF 14 bolt or Ford 9" is the easiest by far :pimp:

Thanks for the input guys, I'll check out the links.
Do you think that eBay kit is worthwhile? If not, does anyone else sell a "kit" like this guy is selling? When I convert to rear disc, do I need to buy wheel bearings for a 14-bolt or what? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm just trying to absorb all the info I can on these axles.

The Ebay kit seems a little high to me. I bought my brackets for $35 off Ebay. I think I paid around $60 for each rotor. And had I needed new calipers, I believe they would have been near $30 each...loaded with pads. The brake hoses cost me $18 each. 35+120+60+36=251. Add in new wheel bearings and seals, and it comes close to $300. The wheel bearings will be for the 14b. The rotor will get pinned to the hub with the studs, just like the drum was. I am unaware of anyone else offering a kit. If I were you, I'd try pricing out the parts individually at a parts store and see what that comes to.

I can do that.....When looking for the rotors, calipers & hoses, should I be looking for a specific model & year?

I believe most/all kits are based off of late 70's 3/4ton stuff. I used/bought parts from my 77 K20 without any issues. The calipers are the same mounting between 1/2-3/4ton and 2/4wd (although I have heard 3/4's had larger pistons...I have never confirmed this).
