Tell me what tires to buy...

Having seen them in operation this weekend, I disagree. SSRs are completely worthless off road. They are designed for quiet road performance and it shows.

Well, then I must be blind. A friend of mine ran them on a K5 the same time I had my TSL's and there wasn't a huge difference. You sure you're not thinking of the Thornbirds?

You're looking at the tread design and obviously not the void ratio and lug spacing.

SSRs are probably better than BFG M/Ts but IMO if you're going to deal with the tradeoffs of swampers you sure as hell better have something better to say than that they're slightly better than BFGs or Goodyears. If I wanted radials I certainly would have BFG M/Ts or Goodyear MT/Rs or similar, or IROKs as you say.

If all I ever ran was mud I would certainly have Boggers without question, especially with minimal street use.

TrcksR4me is the one who said they are slighty better.... When I had my 82 going, a friend of mine had a 78.. Both similarly set-up, but I ran 35x15.50 TSL's and he had 35x14.50 SSR's. SOmehow it always worked out that I led, but he would follow me anywhere i went without much of a difference. These were trails with large mud holes..... Even JK5 ran them for a whiel and he seemed plesed with them also.. I think they have alot better traction than a run of the mill mud terrain BFG/GY and they aren't far off from a TSL..

Ok, let me rephrase with they are wayyyyy better than the average MT tire. It has made my life wheeling in the mud much easier. And all the times my tires loaded up with mud on the trail, everyone elses had too, including regular TSL's and whatnot. I just wouldn't buy SSR's again. At the time I thought I'd be doing much more pavement driving but wanted the swamper look because I was 19 and mall wheeling was at its peak /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

If I get new tires I am looking at the Irok radials in 37" 1) because of the size, 2) because I have heard that the bias Iroks don't have as much tread as a regular swamper and wear quickly, and I can't afford to replace tires all the time.

To be honest...I hated my SSR's...
they sucked in mud...and forget about clay..
they would clog and basically turn into slicks..
But...I'm finding the same thing with my 44" TSL's..
just not as bad..

Where SSR's rule...is on rocks..
At 10-11 lbs of air those tires really flex..
giving some great traction..

I really like my boggers..for around here...
I have twice the traction..of the SSR's.. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
