Hello to all,
I bought my first k-5 2 weeks ago and have been tearing through the engine and interior to get it to where I want it to be, which will take a while. When it comes to the gauges my fuel gauge is pointing at around 4 o'colck which I am assuming is the ground on the fuel sending unit. The temp gaug:waytogo:e wasn't even hooked up because the wire from the gauge to the temp sending unit had mealted on the old headers. After replacing the old disconnect I hooked it to the temp sending unit and now the gauge reads all the way hot. I was wondering if ya'll have any suggestions or if you think this could be a ground issue with the temp gauge as well. Thanks for any help ahead of time and I look forward to getting to know you on the forum.

sounds like for the temp... you may have the wrong sending unit. They make many different ones (with light/without) ... I had to try a few. If you are sure it's correct... may be the gauge itself.....but more likely the sending unit.

Ok I replaced the temp gauge and now the needle does nothing. With my old sending unit installed my old gauge red all the way hot even when the engine was cold, but it was receiving a current. When I replace my old sending unit with the new one it doesn't seem like there is a current at all. I bought the new sending unit at O'Riley's and gave them the make and model but since I am no longer even getting a current I have to assume the sending unit they gave me isn't the right one. I am about to order a new one from Classic Parts and see if this works. I had no idea this would be such a problem. Do you think I am on the right path or does this sound more like a wiring/ground issue. Thanks.

On my 93 jimmy I had problems with the temp guage kind of similar did as you have changed everything. Turns out that the truck was produced for the upper parts of canada and had different specs on sending unit, also required a stronger fuel pump I later found out after changing spyder unit fuel lines from tank to the spyder. Had over 1200 in parts to replace everything when all they needed was the vin to get the right parts. Easiest way to tell is the canada trucks usually have a factory extension cord to plug it in on the real cold nights, mine was by the master cylinder.
