i have a 85 k5 with 305,, and 4 speed stock setup running 32" bfg mudder DD(hey it works) has dummy lights so i bought classic triple guage setup switch out the temp gauge now gauge will not go above 190? whent out muddin i was following a k5 on 35's and a shortbed on 38's i keep up but even then not above 190. now i have a crack in the top heater hose comeing from the fire wall. jsut keeping the plastic tank full not losing to much checking it about 1 a week. would JB weld hold? im i keeping that cool? what is a common temp for ur rig? seems with the leak when i shut it off the temp would jump.

where did you install your sensor?

190 sounds right, im running a 86 k5 with a mild 350 and a sm465 i had a 305 in there and i also had the idiot lights. i swapped in the 3 pack gauge like you did and hooked up to the driver side head port.

just got the motor fired up the other day and i was right below 190 the whole time so i wouldnt worry.

i think the average thermostat on a small block is supposed to open at 175 but dont hold me to that.

yes driver side head this is my third chevy 4x4 and it seems when wheeling hard it could go over 190 but maybe i just need to be happy it anit. my other two over heated easy when in thick mud this ones doing fine so far. knock on wood... where did you hook up the battery gauge to? and can a battery gauge read correct with a deep cicle battery? i heard you can but it wont read right? thanks for the reply this borad is proving to a gret help.

well mine came with an amp gauge my amp gauge i wired to the starter on the charge back wire and an extra empty post, but for the voltage gauge to read right i would assume just normal battery hookup but im not totally sure someone else could anwser that better.

on the other 2 rigs that would over heat in the mud what kind of set up did they have?

had a shortbed 350 motor and 350 trans auto runnin 33" stock setup then k25 350 said to be built to 400 with 4 speed 40"mudders lock out was broke when i went out but temp jump quick

hmmm weird they were over heating, maybe wrong mixture of coolant or something. i honestly dont know.

did you have an external cooler on the 350 trans that was on the front of the radiator? could have been blocking the air flow

also air condition on any of the rigs? i know with mine i have no a/c and with the 4speed when i was in oklahoma with 120 degree heat i would run around all day and never even come close to over heating with that big radiator open and nothing in the way.

push bars and winches can restrict airflow also. when mudding how often to you spend at high rpms at low speeds?

also could have been possible that the cluch fan wasent working when i pulled mine off i realized that spring was gone on mine.

sorry been busy
trans coolor i believe yes been a few years dont really remeber on k10 shortbed 350 motor auto trans had stright fan with spacer. nothing in the way of grill

k25 350 bored up to 400 (was told this no proof but it rolled 40" mudders like they were 31's) 4 speed 3/4 ton 4:10's straight fan also spacer. clear grill

low rpms honestly got trick in to trying a water hole in k10 put water over the hood and had a water hose streaming in to the cab lasted about 5 mins farword and reverse could not climb out. died in water shut off and did not touch pulled out and back to the house change all fluide on behaft of friend who set me up and it ran20 times better then before.
a/c not on k10 or k25 but blazer has a/c but no belt and not really sure if i will use it next year.
